Class Descriptions

Here is a description of courses offered by Data Diva, with more being added as they are created.  Courses are in small groups, and include practice data, VAN access to a training account where necessary, and follow-up review materials.

VAN Basics: Running a Canvass

Prerequisite Skills: None

Get the basics of how to use VAN to canvass. Learn how to pull a list, cut the turf, print it, do the canvass, and enter the data.  Vital information for anyone who wants to run a field campaign.

Creating in VAN: Survey Questions, Activist Codes, Scripts, and Formats

Prerequisite Skills: Field Organizer - level of VAN skills.  

Learn how to create the tools you use in VAN to talk to your voters and record the results. These skills are vital for anyone who wants to become a Field Director on and race smaller than a statewide, because for most campaigns the Field Department is the Data Department. 

Complex List Creation

Prerequisite Skills: Making a basic list

Learn how to build a multi-step list, including who you should put on them.  Running in a Primary?  You need to talk to different people than for a General.  Learn the difference between saving a list and saving a search, and knowing when to use each. Make folders and share them with different people and groups. We'll also discuss what scores are, how to use them, and how they are made.
